Korean
Korean is the official language of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea). There are about 80 million speakers worldwide.

Korean is unique as many linguists characterize Korean as a language isolate meaning that it is not related to any other languages that are still spoken today. However some debate exists as to whether or not Korean is related to Japanese. Research has revealed that around 70% of Korean words are native to Korean, a very high percentage among modern languages, and that most loanwords have come from modern times, particularly from English.

The Korean script hangul was developed in the 15th century by King Sejong who wanted the Koreans to have an alphabet and to stop using Chinese characters. Hangul letters are written so that their shape resembles the shape of one's mouth while pronouncing it. This system combined with the syllable based writing blocks have led many to label the Korean script as the most logical in the world.
